#1FUNTHING 2014: Water Fight!

SONY DSC

We're baaaack with our #1FunThing summer challenge! Remember the challenge last year? From touring your town to chalking it up, we had a ball challenging ourselves and YOU!  Once again, we are encouraging kids to do one fun, outdoor activity each weekend  and then share an image of what you did with us using the hashtag #1FUNTHING so we can see it. We may feature your little on our website and in social media!

First challenge of 2014, WATER FIGHT! So glad our friends at Hasbro sent us these awesome Nerf super soaker blasters, say bye, bye to those little plastic guns of the past - these things literally SOAKED the boys! Normally we are big on conserving water and trying our best not to be wasteful. But we thought we'd take this one time to cool off and go a little nutty. Anyway, the boys didn't waste too much water -- they were so exhausted after 20 minutes they gave up!

I LOVE how these images catch the water drops. These images will be a great summer memory for them, don't you think? Are you going to JOIN THE CHALLENGE THIS WEEKEND?? We hope so! We want to see your pictures next week. Don't forget to use #1FUNTHING when you post!

HAPPY EARTH DAY: 5 Fun Green Activities for Kids

Happy Earth Day 2014 Everyone! This is one of our favorite "holidays" because it is one day where people who normally don't focus on the Earth or its resources, actually do. Here are a few fun activities from the Tristin + Tyler archives that you can do with your littles. Since most New York City public school kiddos don't have school, it's a great day to take on one (or more) of these projects before heading back to classes tomorrow! Enjoy!

1. Head to A Local Nature Center - Most towns and cities have local nature centers where kids can learn about the animals and plants that live in their parks. The boys had a ball when they went to the Inwood nature center here in NYC. They met Sunny the park ranger, and learned how to take care of trees with mulch and water. It was hard work, but they loved it! You can see the video below.

2. Head to a Gardening Class - There are so many fun ways for kids to learn about gardening and caring for plants and flowers. Look one up. They are usually pretty inexpensive depending on what area you are in. It's fun to watch kids as they grow life, they are so amazed! If you're a New Yorker, try here.

3. Reuse Something - If it's raining out, take the fun indoors. It's sooo easy to reuse stuff from around the house. And kids LOVE the idea of takng something ordinary and making it EXTRAordinary! We are big fans of toilet paper roll people, but what else can you make out of toilet paper rolls, a milk jug or coffee filters? The possibilities are endless!

4. Head to A Bookstore for Green Reading - If the weather just isn't right for trekking outdoors, head to bookstore for some green reading! One our fave books is Think Green also try reading about super hero vegetables from the Super Sprowtz! We were lucky to meet them and be a part of their website! :)

5. Take a Short Bike Trip - If you're lucky enough to have a safe bike trail around you, take a ride with the family today. So much to see and do when you're not pre-occupied with TV and/or video games.

1 Fun Thing to Do: Get Outdoors!

SONY DSC

Heading outdoors with the kids for a day of fun is only as good as the activities you bring for them, right? Leave them bored too long, and you'll have a big problem on your hands! So grab your bubbles, sidewalk chalk, face paint, hulahoops and fun snacks and GET OUTSIDE. This week's 1 Fun Thing challenge is all about staying outdoors for an entire day! Last weekend it was my niece Madison's 3rd birthday so we spent the entire day at a park by the Hudson River! From color bubbles from Crayola, to a hula hoop contest (that Tristin rocked and won $10 for), we mixed activites, with good old family fun all day. Will you join our 1 Fun Thing challenge this week? Just use hashtag #1FunThing and share a photo of your child doing our challenge on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and we may share it on our site! If you missed last week's Chalk It Up challenge, check it out here and feel free to use share with us! Check out our fun below, which part is your favorite?
