Winter Brights

zaragrayholiday3.jpg

Hey! It’s been a while, yes I know. It’s been super busy all around! Nice to be back. Lately it’s been super grey and gloomy in NYC. If the sun comes out at all, it’s only for part of the day and then it’s back to clouds. This super blah weather had me inspired to do shoot with as little black, navy and charcoal grey as possible — basically all I’ve been wearing this winter/fall. I wanted to brighten things up a bit.

SHOOT LOCATION

Although I could have really shot this anywhere, I drove all the way downtown (I live waaayyyy uptown) because I love the back drop of a big mural and the retro diner on 10th avenue. I also love the holiday lights that are popping up outside of various restaurants and retail stores. There is nothing like the holidays in NYC for holiday-inspired pictures and nostalgia.

THE STYLING

At first I was totally freaking out, but now I love that the boys are bigger and I can style them in small men’s clothing and they can still rock kids clothes. The coats are both from Zara, the denim is from H&M and a mix of shirts in their closet. The goal was to make the boys coordinate, but not match and make sure there was a small pop of color somewhere - hence Tyler’s hat and kicks. I tried to limit dark colors as much as possible.

ACCESSORIES

You know I love sunglasses. I love Tyler’s because they can reflect skylines, or the city scape. Tristin’s are always a nice upgrade since clear frames give a little more style without being overbearing. As you may already know, Tyler is a bit more sporty that Tristin, so the Jordans and the chain fit on him with the knit hat - more than it would on Tristin.

What do you think of the shoot? Are you into wearing brighter colors in the winter?

Where did the Summer Go: Summer Recap

Tristin + Tyler in UNAUTHORIZED

Tristin + Tyler in UNAUTHORIZED

An entire Summer has passed and although we’ve been pretty active on Instagram, we were pretty quiet on this website. Why? Honestly, life happened and we just didn’t document all of it. The boys had a pretty busy summer, work got super busy for me, family time because extra important and since we bought a new house a few months back, we really focused on finishing small projects and getting things in order before the Fall.

Now that we’ve pretty much gotten ourselves together, we’re back with more styling, new videos and television appearances. Since we did do a few shoots over the summer, I wanted to share a quick recap before we get into our Fall posts! Hope you enjoy and I hope you’re summer was AWESOME! You can click the image to the right to see the rest of the pictures in each gallery.

The boys have definitely grown, so although it’s a bit scary for me as their mom, as their stylist I was excited to explore new brands for them over the last few months. One of my favorites? Unauthorized. All of their pieces look SO great on the boys and they have an adult line as well so you’ll be seeing Tristin + Tyler wearing this brand a ton. Unauthorized’s neutral palette over the summer was so simple + comfortable, but each piece looked so “dressy” on the boys so they were able to go to auditions, and then hang out afterwards. Go check them out!

I had to get one good super “summer-ish” post in, and that was my 4th of July post. I loved mixing and matching to make the perfect combo of red, white and blue with items from Ralph Lauren with basics from The Gap. This was a super fun shoot that really got me back into shooting this summer when I was still on a “break.”

This shoot might have been my favorite. Something about the way the different blues played off of each other really made me feel like we weren’t in NYC — even though we were on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. It almost felt like Miami. My favorite items were the MOLO striped shorts and the written-on Forever 21 shirt. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

I wanted to move around over the summer and find new shoot locations, so I went back to where I grew up in Washington Heights, NYC. This shoot was pretty cool because the boys actually wore ALL ADULT clothing. Everything they have on was an extra small men’s item. I can’t believe I am styling my boys as adults. YIKES! My favorite pieces here are Tristin’s floral pants and Tyler’s shirt from H&M…men’s line!!!

Although the boys barely saw one of their best friends, Brianna, this summer (she was in sailing camp, yes SAILING - she can sail a boat guys!!). Anyway, I wanted to do an end of summer, keeping it local shoot. You know that feeling when you just want to enjoy the last few weeks staying local and enjoying your neighborhood - yes, that feeling. I think I kind of hit the mark with beach chairs on the street, the ghetto mini pool and red drinking cups. On another note, how gorgeous and grown is Brianna?? Super shocking that’s she’s so grown, but she’s still the sweetest. The boys have Forever 21 trunks on and Bri brought her own items based on my direction.

Time really does fly. I’m excited that all of these teens are still super sweet even though they are official high schoolers - crazy but true! Get ready for some Fall and Winter inspiration guys! I’m baaccckkkkk! xo

Spring Neutrals

SPRINGNEUTRAL3.18.jpg

It's technically Spring, but it totally doesn't feel like it. We are a few days away from Easter Sunday and I am still wearing my heaviest coat! I guess that's why when I styled this shoot for the boys I couldn't quite put them in "Spring" colors - I had to ease my way into brights since the weather is not cooperating.  I love these neutrals though!

THE SHOOT - We were visiting family in Long Island so I put all of the clothes, accessories and boots in the trunk of the car and I knew I had to find a spot to get some clean lines outdoors. I found a parking lot on the side of a mall that had this really cool shadow from the sun setting -see above their heads in this first pic, and in Tristin's walking solo pic below?

THE STYLING - It was all about a hint of Spring with the florals, but stepping back from doing any real Spring/Easter colors. Neutrals are always a great way to transition to new seasons. Tristin has a suede jacket and Tyler's is quilted and an olive green. Love all of the small details you can only see from up close.

Enjoy the rest of the images below and make sure to follow us if you haven't already!

In the City with Yamilah

YAMIL7.jpg

THE KIDS: I love getting the opportunity to shoot with other kids, especially girls since I never really have a chance to style them. You may remember gorgeous Yamilah from this shoot. We had so much fun last time that we wanted to definitely work together when she was back in NYC.

BEHIND THE SHOOT:  I love shooting outdoors. I'm not much of a studio person, although I love that I finally have one my own since I bought a house! YAY! We did this shoot in and outdoors since I didn't want the kids to freeze, but I definitely wanted some bright and airy photos.

THE STYLE: Loved styling Yamilah in a slight preppy but sporty look. Her shirt with the bow and the hat dressed her up a bit, but I made it more tween appropriate with the jeans, varsity jacket and converse!

Tristin is a little sophisticated in this one with a long dress coat, but again, I took it down to kid level with a snap back cap and a sweatshirt. Tyler is a little rocker but cool with the jacket and hat. Both boys are rocking the latest Dr. Martens boots - stay tuned for a whole bunch of content on those!

Make sure to check out Yamilah on Instagram!

AdidasTT2.jpg

If you been with us for a few years, you know Tristin, Tyler and I love fashion but we are also really into art and DIY projects, just take a look at their YouTube Channel (this video happens to be my favorite DIY because it was made for me!!). When I was styling the boys for the Adidas Adicolor shoot, we thought of a cool idea to create a two-tone jacket! Kids lifestyle website HYPE KIDS loved the idea, and asked us to make a tutorial for them! See Tristin get sewing below and check out the full article here!

Adidas "Adicolor" Kids Track Set

add14 tris.jpg

We are all ready for Spring over here at Tristin + Tyler headquarters. I'm definitely over the snow, chilly weather and gray skies.  Perfect timing for Adidas to release their Adidas originals "adicolor" superstar track set for kids.  I was so excited about these outfits that I shot these photos in my home studio at 10pm (yes! I got a studio now!!). I am literally writing this at 1:05am, the boys are knocked out and hubby is by my side. :)  If you're interested, I can share some behind the scenes pics of the set up and how I transformed Tyler's jacket into a two-toned masterpiece!

If you're looking to pick up a track set, note that the pants are SUPER hard to find - at least in NYC. You can order them here.
