Tristin + Tyler Featured On: Better Connecticut TV!

Screen Shot 2015-04-10 at 11.46.46 AM It's Spring Time and it's also Earth Month, so every year around this time we try to think up some fun, easy craft ideas utilizing recycled or upcycled materials. So instead of throwing away things like an empty water bottle, wine cork or scraps of construction paper, Tristin + Tyler transform them into something new.  We headed to one of our favorite TV programs, Better Connecticut, to share what we came up with this year including, a cute chicken craft made from scraps of construction paper, plastic water bottle art and my personal favorite: a lady bug pin and straw identifiers made out of milk jug plastic! Check out Tristin + Tyler's segment below (or HERE if you can't see it below), and stay tuned for full tutorials next week! Happy Weekend!

What's Cool: Mission: G-Rok

SONY DSC

We are not big on video games in my household. Honestly, we spend more time creating fun stuff than we do playing around with it. BUT...and this is a BIG but (no pun intended), when a game comes around that is not only fun, educational and has a great message...all bets are off. By now you've probably heard about Mission: G-Rok, a game "revolving around a hip, outgoing 11 year old boy, G-Rok, who is an aspiring music star that has been chosen to save the world before it is destroyed by the world's worst evil villain." What makes this game different than the rest? G-Rok is on a mission to save the planet and rescue his best friend Binz captured by the evil villain Smogorex. Now, you know we here at Tristin + Tyler headquarters are all about caring for the planet and trying to make sure that being "cool" doesn't just mean wearing the latest fashion - it means taking care of yourself, and everything around you. It's not often that a game keeps these themes at the forefront AND manages to infuse cool music at the same time. Oh, and let's not forget that this game is the first of many creative, kid-friendly projects from greenROKS, a venture between Russell Simmons, Natalia Weisman, Cesar Zapata and hip-hop artist, TI. I'm excited to see what's next. You can download the game here!  Does your family play a lot of video games at home? How do you decide what games your kiddo plays? Let me know in the comments below. xx

HAPPY EARTH DAY: 5 Fun Green Activities for Kids

Happy Earth Day 2014 Everyone! This is one of our favorite "holidays" because it is one day where people who normally don't focus on the Earth or its resources, actually do. Here are a few fun activities from the Tristin + Tyler archives that you can do with your littles. Since most New York City public school kiddos don't have school, it's a great day to take on one (or more) of these projects before heading back to classes tomorrow! Enjoy!

1. Head to A Local Nature Center - Most towns and cities have local nature centers where kids can learn about the animals and plants that live in their parks. The boys had a ball when they went to the Inwood nature center here in NYC. They met Sunny the park ranger, and learned how to take care of trees with mulch and water. It was hard work, but they loved it! You can see the video below.

2. Head to a Gardening Class - There are so many fun ways for kids to learn about gardening and caring for plants and flowers. Look one up. They are usually pretty inexpensive depending on what area you are in. It's fun to watch kids as they grow life, they are so amazed! If you're a New Yorker, try here.

3. Reuse Something - If it's raining out, take the fun indoors. It's sooo easy to reuse stuff from around the house. And kids LOVE the idea of takng something ordinary and making it EXTRAordinary! We are big fans of toilet paper roll people, but what else can you make out of toilet paper rolls, a milk jug or coffee filters? The possibilities are endless!

4. Head to A Bookstore for Green Reading - If the weather just isn't right for trekking outdoors, head to bookstore for some green reading! One our fave books is Think Green also try reading about super hero vegetables from the Super Sprowtz! We were lucky to meet them and be a part of their website! :)

5. Take a Short Bike Trip - If you're lucky enough to have a safe bike trail around you, take a ride with the family today. So much to see and do when you're not pre-occupied with TV and/or video games.

Earth Month: Top 5 Green Videos

Screen Shot 2014-04-10 at 7.29.09 AM

Did you know? It's Earth Month! All month long people are finding ways to share their love for the Earth, and we over here at Tristin + Tyler headquarters are BIG on loving the planet so we thought it would be fun to go down memory lane and share Tristin + Tyler's TOP 5 Eco-Friendly Kids Videos

As you may know, Tristin + Tyler spent a ton of time interviewing New Yorkers finding innovative ways to go green since they were 5! I in turn spent a ton of time finding these cool peeps to feature, shooting and editing the videos. From a remodeled craft studio school bus, to products made solely from trash, T+T discovered a ton of cool ways to recycle and upcycle. Will you share these videos with your child this month? You should! They are fun, and most of them ask your kids to play a memory game!

So let's begin! Our #5 video comes from a gal in Brooklyn! Meet Tiffany Threadgould, one of our FAVE upcyclers who can transform trash into just about anything. See if you can catch her soda bottle bracelet and plastic bag headband!  Oh, and check out how small T&T were! Enjoy the video! xx
