What's Up, City Kid?! - Behind the Scenes of "Peg + Cat"

Peg+Cat_Pond_FINAL_FORABOUT

Being the creative gal that I am, I love getting a sneak peek into how other creatives make their art come alive, so I was super excited to head to Brooklyn with Tristin and Tyler and go behind the scenes of the PBS Kids series PEG + CATIn a world where most kids don't like math, or they think of it as boring, Peg + Cat takes math to a whole different level with upbeat storytelling, beautifully composed music, fun problem-solving and a friendship between a girl and her cat that will make you wish your cat could talk! I will say no more! Meet the team behind Peg + Cat in the latest episode of "What's Up, City Kid?" What's Up, City Kid?! - Graffiti + Flip Books

Screen Shot 2015-01-23 at 5.51.46 PM

There is art everywhere in NYC. Whether you watch someone singing on the subway, or see a mural on the metal gates of a closed store, there are so many places to get inspired by creativity. We were excited to visit the Museum of the City of New York (MCNY) for their City As Canvas exhibit and learn all about the history of street art, see some really cool pieces from the some of the most prolific graffiti writers and make grafitti flip books. The City As Canvas exhibit is no longer at the museum, but they have so many great exhibits and free craft workshops, you have to check them out!  To see Tristin and Tyler's fun visit, check out the VIDEO HERE or click the image above (if you can't see it below).

Do your kiddos have a favorite museum for art? Do your kids notice art in places besides the expected? This weekend is the perfect time to head to a museum and see what new (or old) exhibits inspire you -- if you're in New York, I definitely recomment MCNY!

HAPPY WEEKEND!

Behind the Scenes of our New Series: WHAT'S UP, CITY KID?!

Screen Shot 2014-09-29 at 9.39.25 PM

We're super excited to announce that we are launching our new video series next week! Get ready for WHAT'S UP, CITY KID?!  Tristin and Tyler are taking you on a fun, super-cool ride through New York City for a behind the scenes look at some great places for families you might not know about. Not a New Yorker? Don't worry, WHAT'S UP, CITY KID?! is going to travel to check out what's cool for families in other cities too! From the most kid-friendly restaurants to the best places to play and create, Tristin and Tyler have got you covered! Make sure you subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don't miss the episode launch or any other videos!

In our first episode, we head to the Museum of the City of New York.  I think there is always something new to learn about this big ol' city, so Tristin, Tyler and their friends head to the MCNY to learn the history behind graffiti! You've seen graffiti all over, but you never really hear about the artists. Finally, this art form gets the respect and attention it deserves in MCNY's City as Canvas exhibit. Check out the behind-the-scenes photos below and remember to subscribe to the blog (insert your email in the upper right corner of the screen) and our YouTube page so you don't miss a thing!

Cooking with Tristin + Tyler: Freshmade NYC

Screen Shot 2013-10-30 at 9.50.47 PM

I love producing videos, especially kids cooking videos because it's exciting to see children create something new and then enjoy consuming it! On the next episode of Cooking with Tristin + Tyler, the boyz pop up (literally) on Cara and Thomas of Freshmade NYC. Freshmade NYC offers catering, kids birthday parties and cooking classes for kids. Not only is the Freshmade kitchen awesome as it is bright and filled with books, Thomas and Cara were super fun and informative about ingridients and cooking techniques (who knew you were supposed to cut food with your fingers tucked under!??).

Before we launch the full episode next week, I wanted to share a few behind-the-scenes photos of this fun day. You won't want to miss this episode. Cara and Thomas share a unique recipe that the kids loved and it was surprisingly easy to make. The best part -- it's really healthy! STAY TUNED!

On the Next Episode: I Heart This.

I know, I know. It's been a long time since we had a Tristin & Tyler's Tales from the City! episode. Things have gotten busy and we've spent a ton of time covering green events and fun kid happenings instead of featuring our favorite people helping to save the Earth! But we're back, and just in time for Earth Month (YAY!), we're hanging with a woman who wants to spread love for food and the planet at the same time! Meet Fatima Fazal. Fatima started I Heart This, our Eco Brand of the Month!!! I Heart This is a company all about sharing the things we love. Fatima's first product is one that has many purposes, but most importantly, keeps plastic forks and knives out of landfills-halleluah! Stay tuned this week to meet her, and watch us take the city by storm spreading love to a few strangers.
