Tristin & Tyler's Healthy & Cool for School Event!

Last month I was so happy to partner with Harlem Haberdashery to put together a fun event all about being fashionable and healthy for back-to-school! We called it the HEALTHY AND COOL FOR SCHOOL EVENT!

Kids came from all over to participate in an eco-friendly fashion show and other fun activities to get ready for school. Tristin and Tyler were the judges of the fashion show! Check them out!

From magazine pages and macaroni to recycled yarn and newspaper, kids put together amazing accessories with eco-friendly materials in the hopes of being the winner of the fashion show and getting a Kids Foot Locker gift certificate!

Although the kids were looking good, we know it's most important to feel good inside, so we were so happy to have Plum Organics and Soft Serve Fruit Co. provide super healthy treats for the kids! YUUUMMM!

Have you tried Plum Organics Fruit Shredz? They are AWESOME! Adults and kids alike were devouring them like it was the last meal they would ever have!

Have you heard of Soft Serve Fruit Co.?  They have the most amazing soft serve fruit. It looks like ice cream but it's real fruit - awesome! The kids love it, especially since you can add your own toppings.  Soft Serve Fruit Co. was nice enough to provide us with popsicles. They were delicious! You've gotta check them out! We have an episode with them coming soon!

Overall, the event was awesome! We even got some of the best bloggers in NYC to join in the fun!

What a fun, eco-friendly and healthy event! What did you think? Do you do eco-friendly crafts with your kids? What kind of healthy snacks to your kids eat?

Thanks again to our AWESOME sponsors Soft Serve Fruit Co., Kids Foot Locker and Plum Organics.  YOU GUYS ROCK!

Cooking w/ Tristin & Tyler: Episode 3 Making Plum Donuts

Getting the kiddies to eat healthy this summer is easier thank you think! Chef Joe Johnson, a recent winner of Season 1 of Rocco's DInner Party on Bravo TV, come to Tristin and Tyler' kitchen to make Plum Donuts with Blueberry Smear.  Boy was this snack delicious, and super easy to make!   Check out the video and get the recipe below!

After the kids watch the video, ask them:

1. Why are plums called STONE FRUITS?

2. How many FRUITS are in this snack?

3. Do the red plums or darker plums have more WATER CONTENT?

RECIPE:

Plums

1/4 Cup of Marscarpone Cheese

1/2 Cup of Blueberries

Set oven to 350

Cut the plums in half and roast them in the oven face down on a cookie sheet or baking pan for 10 minutes

Mash together the blueberries and marscarphone cheese until its a chunky mixture

Remove the plums from oven after ten minutes DON'T  THE LET KIDS TOUCH! THE PLUMS ARE HOT!

Spread the blueberries and cheese on the plums and then DIG IN!

Cooking with Tristin & Tyler: Episode 2 - How to Make Granola Bars

Here we go! Episode 2 of Cooking with Tristin and Tyler is here! If you missed Episode 1, no worries! Check it out here!

Get ready to GO NUTZ with Tristin, Tyler and their pal Serena Norr.  Once again, the eco-friendly duo uses their magic to bring a cooking partner to Harlem's City Cookhouse to go nutty for granola bars! A bit of a warning parents: this recipe is delish but includes nuts. So, if your child is allergic, lose the nuts and subsitute it for raisins or another dried fruit. Either way you slice it (pun intended), this is a fun, super tasty recipe for granola bars! Thanks, Serena!

See full recipe below!

ENJOY!

Cooking with Tristin & Tyler: Episode 2 - Going Nutz!

Cooking with Tristin and Tyler is just heating up! This week get ready to meet Serena Norr. Serena has two blogs, yup, TWO. Seriously Soupy where she creates and shares new soup recipes every week and Mama Goes Natural where she is navigating her way through living naturally with her kids in NYC.  Tristin and Tyler are wearing orange to raise awareness for Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry 2 campaign which is working to end childhood hunger, and going nutz this week!

What will Tristin, Tyler and Serena make?

Will the dynamic duo be able to get Serena to the kitchen using their magcial powers like they did last time, or will Serena just walk in the door? (Gasp!!)

Will the recipe be D-LISH? I know the answer to that one but the only way for YOU to find out is by tuning in....tomorrow.

Please note that If your child suffers from nut-related allergies, this is the recipe for you to try as we are incorporating nuts. Sorry! :(

See ya then!
